Carol E. Shanklin Turney, 76 of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 21, 2025, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Carol’s life began on September 8, 1949, in Clarksville, TN, daughter of the late Samuel C. Collins, Sr. and Barbara M. Shanklin.

Preceded in death by parents; brother, Ray Gilmore Jr., sisters, Sarah Hurst, Patricia Collins and Joyce Scott, great granddaughter, Diamin Shanklin, uncle, Larry Miller, stepmother, Bessie Collins, nephews, Bobby and Vince Harris.

At an early age Carol joined St. Peter’s A.M.E. Church remaining a faithful member for many years. Carol worked in healthcare all her life, early on working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and eventually returning to school, successfully completing the License Practical Nursing program, retiring after 30 plus years in the industry. Carol was blessed to have lived a life that afforded her the opportunity to travel the world, never one to pass up on a family road trip or vacation, her favorite saying, “I’m going”!

To say that our dear loved one will be tremendously missed by those that genuinely loved her is an understatement. Our family chain is now broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again.

Survived by husband, Alfred Turney, Jr., Nashville, TN. Devoted daughters, Crista (Terry) Claiborne, Baltimore, MD, Stacey Jones, Elkton, KY, Stephanie and Tiffany Jones, Nashville, TN. Stepchildren; Alfred Turney III, Cassandra McGeary, Venisha Harris, Alethea Turney, and Dominque Nichols.

Loving siblings, sisters, Paula Shanklin, TN, Stephanie Collins, NY, Bianca Collins, MS. Brothers, Larry (Tomoko) Shanklin, San Antonio, TX, Samuel (Trudy) Collins Jr., Nakia (Teresa) Collins and David (Percynthia) Collins, all of MS. Brother-in-law, Michael (Gwatholyn) Turney and sister-in-law, Betty (Tony) Turney-Turner, Nashville, TN.

Cherished memories by those that affectionally and proudly called her granny; Antonio Shanklin, Christopher (Katrice) Shanklin, Ebony Jones, Stacy Jones, Steven Kelly, Shauntavious Jones, Shalonda Kelly, Shauniece (Orlando) Brunke, Tiffany Jones, Krista (Chaz Jackson) Jones Keyera Jones, Ta’Shaun Jones, and Tevin Kelly, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson.

Carol played an integral role in the lives of her nephews and nieces; Earl, Denna and Terri Harris, Kenneth and Kevin Gilmore, Dawn and Brian Hurst, Tamara Shanklin and Maria Shanklin (Zaddie) Colquitt. Also left to cherish her memory, devoted aunt, Wilda Miller, IN, lifelong friend, Edith Moody, TN, traveling buddy, Cora Pettus, TN; God daughters, Monica Earl Semple and Ernestine Meriwether and a host other nieces & nephews, cousins, and many other special friends.
