Freda M. Colon, 83, of Lebanon, TN died on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, Lebanon, TN.
Freda was born on May 20, 1942, in Laporte, IN and was raised by her parents Fred and Leona Sutton. As a young girl, Freda along with her siblings picked cotton on her parent’s small farm in Missouri’s boot hill before school. Freda retired after 20 years as a defense contractor at Kirtland AFB, NM as an electronics specialist managing and training others at the White Sands National Laboratory. Her passion in life was her ceramics. As a long-standing member of the AJAX Turner Senior Center in Clarksville TN, she volunteered countless hours in helping and educating fellow seniors. Freda was well regarded as the resident expert for many years. She was also a home health care provider for many years in the Clarksville TN area. She cared about her fellow seniors, friends and family.
Freda is survived by her son James Higgs and wife Sonia of Lebanon, TN, daughter Jayda Buckland and husband Chad of Edgewood, NM, sister, Devonia Holland of Laporte IN and brother, Larry Sutton of Hawaii; four grandchildren: Lauren Swallow, Matt Hang, Thomas Higgs, Chad Buckland and two great grandchildren: Bradley Swallow and Seth Buckland. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Leona Sutton, sons Thomas and John Higgs and siblings: Jay Sutton, Glynn Sutton, Wayne Sutton, Ricky Sutton, June Price, Stella Firanek and husband Donald Colon.
A celebration of life will be held at Walking House Meadows, Clarksville, TN at a future date. Freda will be interned at the Santa Fe National Cemetery alongside her husband Donald Colon.
