Johnnie Lee Smith

Mrs. Johnnie Lee Smith was born on March 27, 1927 in Florence, Alabama to Johnnie Smith and Mary L. Cunningham. She entered into rest on Sunday, July 17th, 2022 at her residence in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Johnnie accepted Christ at an early age and she attended Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church and Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. Johnnie received her formal education from Limestone County School Systems in Florence, Alabama. She graduated class of 1945 from Burrell Slater High School.

Johnnie was united in Holy Matrimony to Howard Smith Jr. on June 12, 1964, they enjoyed a number of years of marriage until his passing. Johnnie was employed with Kmart Department Store from 1978 to 1996, and Gibson Department Store in Clarksville, Tennessee, until her retirement.

Johnnie enjoyed traveling, completing crossword puzzles/ word finds, and spending quality time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her!

Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Smith Jr., son, Edward Suggs, parents, Johnnie and Mary Smith, brothers, Dewey and Jake Smith, and sister, Geneva Bird.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories son, Kelvin (Donna) Smith, grandchildren, Brandon (Kyesha) Smith Sr., April (Quadrell) Harlan, Stacy Smith, great grandchildren, Kendra Smith, Khloe Smith, Kaniyah Harlan, Brandon Smith Jr., La’Nia Carter-Smith, God- Daughter, Precious Wells, adopted sons, Steven Taylor and Joe Petty, devoted aunt, Lilly Cunningham, devoted cousins, Anita Smith, Virginia Hill, Ricky Cole, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved family, and friends.

Services have been entrusted to Hooker Funeral Home in Clarksville, TN. Public Viewing will be Friday, July 29th from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM at Hooker Funeral Home, 723 Franklin Street. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 30th, 2022 at 12:00 PM, Springhill M.B. Church, 221 Oak Street. Burial in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Johnnie Lee was so kind to me and my family when she was visiting her mother in Florence. Miss Mary L was very dear to our family. She told us about her love for her daughter, Johnnie Lee, long before we met her.
